Artist Statement
I am brown eyes and thick dark hair. Full lips and short arms that reach out regardless. I am strong thighs and grounded feet, often wishing to be lighter. I am small breasts and proud chest. I am too much and not enough. I am movement bursting through, restless to tell you a poem with no words.
My work is rooted in lived and imaged personal narratives that refuse to be compartmentalized. I am equally interested in external and internal landscapes, individual and communal, shared and private. I seek to create honest visual works, interdisciplinary in nature, and emotionally reachable by diverse audiences.
Affected by the places I’ve lived in and the places I have yet to go, I embrace uncertainty and ambiguity. I am more interested in sincerity than uniqueness.
The place I’ve always considered home is my body, and movement my first language. I dance and make dances, to unearth, digest and forgive. I move, and dream of movement, to make home a sincere and empathetic space, for myself and others.
